Over the past several weeks many of you have heard of the Angel Food Ministries and have an idea of how it works. A few have taken advantage of the money savings and have purchased a box of food through this ministry. Currently we are continuing to work with the Perry Nazarene Church to learn more about the program. As our Congregation at Crossroads contemplates how we might become involved with meeting needs within our community please give consideration into this ministry outreach.
The following is a reminder of how the program works: Each box of food costs $30.00 and consists of both fresh and frozen items. There are no second-hand items, no damaged or out-dated goods, no dented cans without labels, no day-old breads and no produce that is almost too ripe. Each month the menu of items within a box (or unit) is different and the menus are available ahead of time. The average retail value of each box is $50.00. Person’s can also help those less fortunate by purchasing or donating toward an extra box that would be donated to local families.
Orders and payments are collected during the first of each month, and then volunteers from the church pick up the food and prepare for Distribution Day. The person(s) that ordered the food then would come to the church on Distribution Day to get their food, bringing their own box(es) or baskets to be filled and their original receipt. All food not picked up on Distribution Day by the designated time would be donated to local families.
